This coloring with paper present bear is too cute! Wouldn’t he look perfect on a birthday card or scrapbook page? I did exactly that and you can see it at the bottom of this page. Try the technique today and make your own. This method is also called paper piercing. It goes nicely with the coloring with paper birthday cake here.
Once you are sure you understand the basics, download the present bear SVG File. The instruction sheet in the download file explains how to upload it to Design Space.
You will need:
- black cardstock (what I use)
- Various color scraps
- Brown cardstock
- Tweezers
- Liquid glue
- Contact paper
- Scissors
- Download File
Paper Selection
The black paper I use for most of the outlines is linked in the materials list.
The color possibilities for the present and ribbon are endless. The bear should be a shade of brown but if you are adventurous try another color. Use your imagination and your leftover paper bin
Cutting
Don’t shrink the bear image or the black lines will too thin. You can cut multiple colors on the same mat.
The SVG file has several small pieces. This is so you won’t need to cut the whole project multiple times. The whole image is used to cut the black outline and the brown for the bear. Use the bow and package to cut those parts. Cut the whites of the eyes with the smallest piece. Use the part with the whole face to cut the light brown face parts.
Cut out the various pieces from paper scraps in your scrap bin. Watch the video on cutting multiple colors on one mat.
Assembling the Coloring with Paper Present Bear
First, stick the outline to the contact paper and re-cover it with the protective backing paper.
Now start placing the various pieces on the outline with the tweezers. The line for the leg and the arm will move around because they aren’t attached to anything. You can move them if necessary with tweezers when placing the pieces they fit into.
DO NOT TOUCH THE STICKY SHEET WITH YOUR FINGERS!
When all the open spaces are filled, check to make sure all the paper is secure. Press the protective sheet over everything and press sorta hard. Anything that seems loose, glue down with the liquid glue and let dry for at least 30 minutes.
With scissors cut around the outside leaving as much of the outside black line as you can.
