Diamond Easel Birthday Card To Make

This Diamond Easel Birthday Card is fancy alright. This Diamond Easel Birthday card is a slight twist on the normal diamond easel card. It adds an extra couple of folds and overlays to make it special.  Someone once told me they love layering paper together, if that sounds like you, you will love making this card!

This card is an unusual shape.  It is 5.5 inches by 6 inches when folded for mailing.  It will fit in a 6 inch square envelope or you can make a custom envelope using the custom envelope tutorial here.

What you need:

Paper Selection For the Diamond Easel Birthday Card

I found this great birthday cardstock so I wanted to use it.  It is great in the white paper role.  The base card does need to be two sided and fairly heavy (100 lb. wt. at least).  Solid paper would be best.  Too many patterns would be confusing and the card was designed to use patterned paper in place of the white paper.  The rest of the papers can be any weight and one sided.  And there are a lot of them.

Cutting the Diamond Easel Birthday Card

There are a lot of little pieces but I tried to limit the number of colors.  Be careful not to lose the little pieces.  Also be careful with the intricate pieces.  They are thin and tear easily when taking them off the mat.

I put all the little parts on one mat by combining mats.

Assembling the Diamond Easel Birthday Card

First, Re-crease the fold lines to make sure they work properly.  The diagonal folds do not go all the way through so be careful with them.  Make sure the card folds properly before you continue.  The fold lines are done by the following map.

Next build the overlays.  The top overlay goes in the following order from bottom to top: purple diamond, blue diamond, “White” paper, dark blue circle, light blue circle, pink heart, green letters, blue letters.  Center each piece on the piece below it.  The top is glue to the top of the base card.  Only glue the top half of the diamond up to the fold line.  If you glue it past the fold line, your card will not work properly.

The bottom overlay goes from bottom to top:  dark blue, “white”, pink oval and green letters.  The balloons fit on the green balloon base and fit together as in the pictures above.  The balloons are attached with foam tape and is the stopper for the easel.  The whole thing is centered on the base card at the bottom.  The small triangles go in the middle between the folds.  See the picture above for any questions for where something goes.

Open and close the card a few times to make sure everything works.

And your Diamond Easel Birthday Card is done!  Enjoy!
