Making Paper Flowers – The Buttercup

The Buttercup flower is made the same way as the tulip flower was made earlier.  It is another super easy flower to make.  I am going to make them from cardstock.    You can also see how to do rolled flowers too.

These flowers have many different parts in the download file but they are all similar.   You can attach leaves or not.  The leaves are in Monday’s download file if you are using the SVGs.

What you will need:
Paper Selection

The flowers can be cut from any color or patterned cardstock. I cut the large pieces of these from patterned paper. You can use plain paper if you prefer.   Your imagination is your only limit.

Cutting the Paper Flower Buttercup

This flower does not work in felt or fabric.  The intricate cuts and folds don’t work well from felt.

The parts of the flower can be cut on one mat.

Assembly

Once all the pieces are cut, fold the larger pieces at the score line.  You will make a kind of sandwich.  Start with a large piece folded at the score line and then add a small piece on top.  Tape glue or liquid glue work fine for this.

Then add another folded piece and so on until all the pieces are added.  You should end up with a small piece on top.  Release the sandwich and connect the first large piece with the last small piece.

The flower should have five “petals” or spines that can be spread easily so that looking from the top you have a star.  The flower is done and you can add leaves if you want.

I have made a page with all the links to the paper flower tutorials.  The tutorials for the other paper and felt flowers from Flower Week can be found here.

Here is a picture of the wreath I made from all the paper flowers from Flower Week.
