The Pansy for Flower Week

The final type of flower for Friday is the Pansy.  I am going to make them from cardstock but they could be made from felt or material.    You can also see how to do rolled flowers too.

These flowers have many different parts in the download file but the main flower is made from just 2 parts.  The pansy come in many different color so this is a versatile flower and can be made to go with any color theme.  The leaves in this file have been simplified to make them easier to make.

What you will need:
Paper Selection

The flowers can be cut from any color or patterned cardstock. I cut them all from plain paper, but you can cut the main flower from patterned paper if you want. The black pieces really should stay solid black since this is a distinctive characteristic of the pansy.

Cutting the Pansy

If you want to cut the flower out of felt or fabric and you have a maker use the rotary wheel.  Only the base flower should be made this way though.

If you don’t have a maker, it is a little harder.  I tried using fusible material and haven’t made it work yet but I’m still trying. What I did do to get the felt cut was first use the deep cut blade and then attach the felt to contact paper. I used Duck Brand contact paper.  Place the felt on your mat with the contact paper down and cut on the felt fused setting.  Tape the whole piece down to the mat with painters tape.  The cricut cuts the design twice.  It cuts it well if it isn’t to intricate of a cut.

The parts of the flower can be cut on one mat.

Assembly

Once the pieces are all cut out, glue the black pieces to the flower.  The bigger of the two pieces goes on the bottom with the smaller leaves on top.  Then place the brad through the hole in the middle to hold the flower together.  Finally, bend the top petals up to give the flower a little dimension.

Leaves can be attached with glue.  They are included in this file.

This is what the wreath that I made with the flowers made this week.

I have made a page with all the links to the paper flower tutorials.  The tutorials for the other paper and felt flowers from Flower Week can be found here.
