Teacher Appreciation Card

Your kids aren’t the only ones going back to school.  Teachers are underpaid, over worked and not appreciated enough.  Tell them that you understand with this Teacher Appreciation card.

When my daughter was in elementary school. I would give the teachers a gift card at Christmas.  Not one of them spent the money on themselves.  They bought things for the classroom.  This Teacher Appreciation card will tell them you understand their sacrifice.  You can use this card anytime during the year.

You will need:

        • Heavy cardstock for the base
        • scraps of cardstock
        • Pen
        • Glue
Cutting the Card

The cricut will do the writing.  I used a black pen.

This card looks good with patterned paper too as long as it is a light and/or a small pattern.  I did it in pink because Cordelia’s favorite teacher is female.  The color choice is yours.  Use your imagination.

I tried to do a card band, but the way this card folds, it didn’t work.  I really liked the apple though so I glued it to the front of the card.  You can leave it out if you want.

Assembly
Be careful removing the embellishments from the mat.  They tear easily.

After cutting, re-crease the folds and make sure the card works properly.  This design is called a Twisted Gatefold Card, so it folds a little skewed.

First glue the inlays in the card, being careful to avoid the folds.  Next glue the ribbons on with liquid glue.  If you use the apple piece make sure it is glued only to one side of the front of the card or the card wont open.

Your card is done!  I’m sure the teacher will love this Teacher Appreciation Card.

Small Bookmarks AKA Page Corner Bookmarks

This is the second post about making bookmarks but these are different.  These are page corner bookmarks and just as the name says they fit over the corner of the page of your book.  See the large bookmarks here.

As I said on the page with the other bookmarks, I made these and showed them to my daughter and she laughed at me.  She said “DUH mom, we don’t have books anymore.  Everything is on the computer.”  So I guess that these corner bookmarks are for readers too.  And I guess I’m just old because I had books.  Either way these are cute and easy to make.

What you need:
        • various scraps of cardstock
        • glue
        • pen
        • the download files
Cutting

These bookmarks used up a lot of my scrapbox. I tried to use a wide variety of papers.  Anything can be used.  Patterned paper would look nice too.

For the ones with drawing I used a black gel pen or on the dark bookmark I used a silver gel pen.  Using a marker you would lose to much of the detail.

BTW did you know that you can use any pen in your cricut?  Find out how here.

I combined all the small pieces to one mat.  Watch my video if you don’t know how to do that

Assembly
Look at the picture to see what goes where.  I tried to keep the stuff all together in the download file for each bookmark. Everything can attached with tape glue. For the flower be careful where you glue it so that the glue doesn’t come through the hole in the front.

Fold back at the score lines and glue the 2 back pieces together.  Do not glue the front piece.  The bookmark should slide over the corner of the page of the book like the examples below.

Large Bookmarks for You to Make

I was trying to find another back to school themed craft to make.  So I make bookmarks.  These bookmarks are large bookmarks and what I think of when I hear bookmark. I also made small corner bookmarks.  They are here.

I made these and showed them to my daughter and she laughed at me.  She said “DUH mom, we don’t have books anymore.  Everything is on the computer.”  So I guess that these large bookmarks are for readers too.  And I guess I’m just old because I had books.  Either way these are cute and easy to make.

        • pen
        • the download files
Cutting

These bookmarks used up a lot of my scrapbox. I tried to use a wide variety of papers.  Anything can be used.  For the inserts even vellum can be used.

For the ones with drawing I used a black gel pen or on the dark bookmark I used a white gel pen.  Using a marker works but you lose some of the detail on the yellow bookmark.

For the bookmarks with two or three layers be careful where you glue them so that the glue doesn’t come through the holes in the front and back.
