Spring Dutch Door Card

I am sooo tired of Winter.  We all need to make something bright and colorful.  I have the perfect project!  This card celebrates Spring in all its sunny glory.

This dutch door card is unique that it has two different ways to open, like a real dutch door.  There is a lot of gluing on this card but it isn’t that hard to make.  This card fits in an A7 envelope. (One of these days I am going to learn to like making envelopes.)

You will need:

        • Heavy  cardstock for the base
        •  lots of scraps of cardstock
        • Pen
        • Glue
        • Download File

Paper Selection

This card is bright and colorful and uses a lot of different colors so plan ahead for the papers used.  Patterns will work with the embellishments but I’d leave the base card as plain paper to avoid conflicts with the colors.

Cutting the Card

Cut the card out and the Cricut will do the writing.  I used a green glitter gel pen.  The card uses one of my own fonts CMV Zebra.  Check out my fill in fonts here.

In the example above the bottom flaps overlap a little.  I fixed this in both download files so that they meet in the center.  This card takes so much gluing and it doesn’t change the card a lot so I just used the original version for the pictures.

There are LOTS of little pieces.  It is very easy to misplace one or two (I did it).  Try to keep them straight and wait until the whole card is cut out before assembling it.

Assembly
First re crease all the score lines and work the dutch doors a few times to make sure it is OK.  Then set the base card aside for a little bit.

The first thing to assemble is the tri-color fan pieces. They go purple, blue, pink from bottom to top.   These are easy and use up a lot of the little pieces.  They also go on most of the other larger parts.

Next shadow the words by offsetting them just a bit.  You can put the shadow any way you want with either color on top.  Choose the way you like best.  I put the darker color on the bottom and put the bright color a little lower.

Next assemble the flowers.  These are very straight forward and you can see how to make them by looking at the picture.  The medallions are a little harder.  I created this diagram to show you.  Layer the pieces from left to right starting at the bottom.  They will all be centered on the lower pieces.

Once you have the smaller pieces together start building on the base card. The fan border goes between the base card and the “Welcome Spring” front cover.  The rest you should be able to get from the pictures.

Your colorful Spring Dutch Door Card is done!  I hope this card makes you remember that Spring is coming!
