Valentine’s Day pulley cards are truly amazing! I love this card design. And it has a Valentine gnome too. The pulley card unfolds to create a beautiful 3D pop out card that anyone would love to get. Send one to your favorite valentine. And the card band is included.
The card band is to keep the card closed for the envelope. It fits into an A7 envelope which you can make or buy. If you want to make it, use my envelope tutorial here. You can even make a liner with the same paper!
This is the February 2022 Patreon Card for The Crazy Cricut Lady. The tutorial is free but to download the design you will need to first become a patreon supporter of The Crazy Cricut Lady site. This is completely separate from my site membership and does cost $1 per month. That helps me keep the rest of this site free and allows me to help pay for the site. One project per month is posted on my patreon site but you get access to all past projects when you join and help support this site. Last month’s project is all five of the Valentine’s Day Gnomes. You can download them too! Consider joining my patreon supporters now.
This card is very complicated to assemble so read through the instructions completely before you start.
Paper Selection For the Valentine’s Day Pulley Card
Traditional Valentine colors work best with this card. The base card has to be heavier paper, at least 100 lb. weight. Patterned paper may look good on some of the embellishments but I wouldn’t use it for the base card because you don’t see a lot of it. The light pick overlays would work though as long as your pen shows up. Use your imagination and make the card uniquely yours!
Cutting the Valentine’s Day Pulley Card
I used a red l pen for the decoration on the card band and the hearts. You can use any color you like. I think the foil We R Memory Keepers pens would look great too.
Make sure you follow the directions included in the zip file so that you card is the right size and cuts correctly. There is no Design Space file.
There are lots of little pieces, especially with the gnome. Be careful not to lose the little parts.
You can save paper by rearranging the piueces on the mat. If you need help with this, watch my video on cutting different colors on the same mat.
Assembling the Valentine’s Day Pulley Card
Start by assembling the layers of the embellishments and the gnome. Then set them aside until; the card is assembled.
Before you start assembling the pulley mechanism, glue the two slotted pieces together with the smaller one on top. Make sure to line up the slots and to only glue them on the vertical edges outside the slots. This will allow the slider to slide. Then glue one of the small pink rectangles to the bottom inside of the base card.
This card is very difficult to assemble so read the directions a few times first to be sure you got it. I made an orange version to show you how to assemble it.
I used tape glue in this example. When you make your card, use liquid glue. We are going to glue the piece that looks like an S first. Put glue on the end part. like this:
Make a box with the last three sections and attack the glue to the rest of the piece. Put glue on the bottom of the box.
Then fold the piece around and attach the top fold to the bottom of the box like this:
Put glue on the back and bottom of this piece.
Next, slide the long uncreased part of the other piece through the two slots in the top large rectangle and passing between the two rectangles. Glue the little fold to the base card just below the center fold to separate it from the back. Glue the other folded piece to it so that it is even with the bottom. Lastly glue the whole piece to the bottom. When you have done all that it should look like this. ( I only included one of the slotted rectangles and left out the little grey piece.) The base looks a little warped in the picture because of all the dozens of times I tried to figure out how to teach this. When you make this card it will be straight.
Finishing the Valentine’s Day Pulley Card
Open and close the card a few times to make sure the back slides and the other pieces fold properly.
Once you are sure it works properly add the rest of the embellishments. The heart border attaches to the top little part of the box. The gnome goes together and attaches to the next tab. And the hearts attach to the back overlay. Nothing goes on the top of the slider (behind the gnome). This is what gives the card its layers.
The BE MINE attaches to the other little rectangle and goes on the outside of the card at the bottom. I had designed this card with writing on the inside rectangle but decided that it didn’t work, so I took it out.
Attach the heart medallion to the card band and wrap the band around the closed card from top to bottom. Be sure that it is loose enough to slide on and off. As I said earlier, this keeps the card closed and adds some decoration to the front when the card is closed.
