Mother’s Day Twist and Flip Card

Impress everyone with this dynamic Mother’s Day Twist and Flip Card. Mom will know you love her and will be so proud that you made this card yourself.

I wanted to do a card that was mainly drawn to teach how to use the pen.  This is what I came up with.

What you need:
      • Very heavy cardstock for the base
      • Regular cardstock for the overlays
      • Patterned paper for the panels
      • liquid glue
      • Scissors
      • Pen
      • Download file
Paper Selection
Twist and flip cards like this Mother’s Day Twist and Flip card need sturdy paper for the base card.  At least 100 lb. weight.  you don’t see much of it so use plain two sided paper.
The rest of the card can be any  weight and patterned or not.  Just don’t use too many pattern.  It gets confusing.  And make sure the pen shows up on any pattern you choose.
Cutting the Mother’s Day Twist and Flip Card

I have become obsessed lately with using the write feature of design space ever since I discovered you could use any pen in your cricut. So I created this card to try it.  It utilizes writing and drawing on all the panels. I used a blue/grey crayola marker but use any pen you like.  Maybe try a glitter pen.  It would look great.

This card is easy to cut.  It only takes 3 mats.

Assembly

The assembly of this card is very complex and if anyone has trouble after trying email me.  I will try to help.

After cutting the base card, re-press the folds and work them a bit.

I cut the base card pieces out of blue and orange so you could see more clearly how they are assembled.

First, fold the center piece like this picture and even out the ends with scissors if necessary.

Then, the long rectangle is folded like the first picture and then fitted into the other piece  with half above one of the tails and one below.

The first picture shows how the pieces should fit together.  Draw with a pencil a light box on the orange piece around where the two pieces intersect.  I used a pen so that it could be seen better.

Next, unfold the piece you drew on and divide that box that you drew in half.  Place liquid glue on the little box closest to the outside edge.

After gluing, refold the orange piece and slide it back in place and press down to set the glue.  I put a glass on top of it until the glue dried.

Finishing the Card

Glue the dark red panels to the inside of the Mother’s Day twist and flip card.  Tape glue is fine for this.  Unfold the base card and place the point of the  triangle of the two center pieces in the center of the base card (after the glue is dry).  Lastly, with liquid glue, stick both sides of the triangle to the base card.  Liquid glue is a must here.  It is stronger and this Mother’s Day Flip card needs it

For this picture I don’t have the dark red panels installed, but you will have already done that.  Make sure to turn the card over and glue the top and bottom triangle to the card.  Set it aside until all the glue is dry.

Opening and Closing the Card

The card should open and close now like this video.

Eventually this video will show how to make a twist and fold card.  Right now it just shows a card opening.

The last step is to attach the front panel and the small panels on the inside.

And your Mother’s Day Flip Card is done.  Enjoy!
